DH

David Harrington

Bangkok, Expatriate (UK)

"I had three years of pension correspondence that had never been opened in any particular order. After one sorting session I had four clearly labelled folders and, for the first time, a reasonable sense of what each pile actually was. Nothing dramatic, but genuinely useful."

"The workshop was the right pace for me. I had worried it would be too basic, but it covered things I had been confused about for years without me realising — how timelines are typically structured, what the reference numbers on statements usually mean. I took three pages of notes."

Malcolm Keene

Silom, Bangkok

"Good session. I would say the first twenty minutes were a little slow while we worked out where to start, but once we got going it was straightforward and productive. I left with my documents in considerably better shape. I will probably come back for the quarterly membership check-in."

Nong Lertprakit

Din Daeng, Bangkok

"I have been a member for about eight months now. The quarterly check-ins are quite short but always worthwhile — there is always something new to file and it helps to have someone else looking at it with fresh eyes. The reference materials are clear and I have used them several times on my own."

"What struck me was how unhurried the whole session felt. No one was looking at the clock. The facilitator took the time to explain what each type of document usually contains without making me feel as though I should already know. I felt calmer walking out than I had in a while."

James Rattanasirithorn

Sathorn, Bangkok

"Attended the workshop with two colleagues who are in similar situations — all three of us had accumulated pension documents from previous employment that we had never properly understood. The facilitator covered the basics well. Would have appreciated slightly more time on the section about document timelines, but overall a solid session."

Participant Journeys

How Participants Have Used Our Sessions

These are summaries of real participant experiences, shared with permission. Names have been changed at request.

The Starting Point

David, 58, Bangkok Expatriate

David arrived with two decades of pension statements from three different employers in two countries — stored in a mix of folders, envelopes, and a carrier bag. He had no sense of which documents related to which employer or which were still relevant.

What Happened in the Session

We sorted the documents by employer and then by year within each employer's group. Each category was labelled and a brief plain-language note was added to each folder describing what that type of document typically contains. The session took about 80 minutes.

What Changed

David left with six clearly labelled folders and a reference sheet. At his follow-up check-in three months later, he noted that he had been able to add three new documents to the correct folders without needing help — which he described as the most useful outcome.

"I could finally hand the folder to my solicitor and they knew exactly what they were looking at."

The Starting Point

Group of Four, Colleagues

Four colleagues from the same organisation attended a workshop together after a team discussion about retirement preparation. None of them felt confident reading the annual statements they received, and they wanted a shared vocabulary for talking about what they had.

What Happened in the Workshop

The three-hour workshop covered common pension document structures, typical timeline formats, and how reference numbers and entitlement periods are usually presented in employer correspondence. The group asked questions throughout and noted that it was useful to compare their experiences informally.

What Changed

Two of the four went on to book individual sorting sessions afterwards. All four reported that they felt more comfortable opening and reading pension-related letters than before the workshop, and that they had begun discussing the topic among themselves more openly.

"The workshop gave us a common way to talk about something we had all been slightly avoiding."

The Starting Point

Nong, Year-Round Member

Nong signed up for the membership after an initial sorting session. She expected to accumulate new documents throughout the year and wanted a straightforward way to keep things in order without having to think too hard about it between check-ins.

How the Membership Worked

Over twelve months, Nong had four quarterly check-ins — each lasting around 30 to 40 minutes. At each one, we reviewed what had arrived since the last session and added it to her existing folder structure. She also received two updated reference checklists by email during the year.

What Changed

By the end of the year, Nong's folder system had grown from six folders to nine, with all documents up to date and correctly categorised. She renewed her membership for a second year, noting that the check-ins had become a low-effort routine she found genuinely helpful.

"It is the kind of thing I would never have done on my own, but with four check-ins in the year it just became a habit."
